Brogstens Bro

Historical stone arch bridge near Östra Stenby

The historical stone arch bridge Brogstens Bro is an abandoned small road bridge over the creek Bjärkusaån near Östra Stenby, about 18 kilometers east of Norrköping.

Brogstens Bro, consisting of a single bridge arch, was built in 1799 and is one of the oldest stone arch bridges on the peninsula of Vikbolandet in the northeast of the southern Swedish province Östergötlands Län. In former times the Arkösundsvägen, the main road from Norrköping to Arkösund at the tip of the peninsula, passed over the small bridge.

After the main road was renewed in 1953 and relocated several hundred meters to the south, the small bridge was no longer necessary and began to decay. After several years, shortly before the bridge threatened to collapse, the local heritage association initiated the successful restoration of the bridge with the financial support of the provincial administration.
