Långa Soffan

Longest park bench in the world in Oskarshamn

Långa Soffan, standing on a terrace in the harbor area of Oskarshamn, is the longest park bench in the world with its 72 meters and has been an integral part of the cityscape for more than 150 years.

Due to the elevated position on the hillside, the Långa Soffan offers a very good view of the harbor and the harbor entrance as well as the Baltic Sea. If the view is clear, even the island Blå Jungfrun is shimmering blue on the horizon.

Exactly for this purpose, namely because of the view, the bank was built in 1872 with funds from the former port authority. At the time, Oskarshamn was a major port for fishing and freight traffic, the bank created a lookout point and meeting place for the waiting wifes of the fishermen and sailors.

As well as a place to relax and admire the beautiful view, the bank serves as a tribune at some events – such as the New Year's Eve fireworks, which is fired on the island of Badholmen in the harbor basin or the annual motorboat race Oskarshamn Offshore Race.
