Stenshuvuds Nationalpark Stranden

Bathing beach at Stenshuvud near Kivik

The popular sandy beach Stenshuvuds Nationalpark Stranden is located within the National park Stenshuvud on the coast south of Kivik in the northern half of the municipality Simrishamn.

With a view of the prominent summit, the beach stretches along the coast for several hundred meters below the mountain Stenshuvud. With its fine white sand and the woods that reach down to the beach, the natural sandy beach has a similar exotic flair as the Knäbäckshusens Strand.

The beach changes its shape depending on the wind direction and the wind force. At times, more or less many small stones become visible on the shore line, only to be covered by sand again at other times. Beyond that, the seabed becomes sandy and remains very shallow for a long time. As on the entire coast of Österlen, increased caution must be taken when bathing in the sea, especially with onshore winds, to avoid the dangerous undercurrents that often occur even in shallow water.

The beach has no facilities such as bathing bridges or barbecue areas. A simple toilet is located in the small forest just above the beach. A larger toilet and a kiosk can be found at the official parking lot, which is about 500 meters away. The path from the parking lot down to the beach is relatively wide and accessible with wheelchairs and prams – but has a significant gradient.
