Pestbackens Naturvårdsområde

Nature reserve at Gualöv

Pestbackens Naturvårdsområde is a small nature reserve just south of Gualöv, about 6 kilometers southwest of Bromölla.

Pestbackens Naturvårdsområde consists of an about 600 meters long and 5 to 10 meters high dune, which is covered with pine trees. The dune is geologically seen very young, because it consists of sand, which has been deposited there in the 17th and 18th century.

The name Pestbacken (pest hill) is very likely to arose in connection with the last plague epidemic at the beginning of 18th century, because there is an old plague cemetery in the north of the dune.
